A full Driver Licence is obtained after the probationary period. For drivers who obtained their Probationary Driver Licence after 1 July 2008, the minimum age at which they can obtain their full Driver Licence is 22, unless they already have an Interstate or New Zealand Probationary licence, and move to Victoria, in which case they can be 21. This is an irregularity that can allow Interstate and New Zealand drivers to obtain their full licence one year ahead of residential Victorians.

A driver's licence creates a huge sense of freedom but it comes with big responsibilities. Thousands of crashes result in serious injuries and death each year, making driving one of the riskiest things we do on a daily basis, so it's vital you maintain your driving skills and knowledge of the road rules. The following classes of licence are issued: 1) Multi-function: Authorises selling or supplying of liquor on the licensed premises for multi-function event 2) Single-function: Authorises selling or supplying of liquor on the licensed premises for a single-function event 3) Special event: Authorises the licensee to sell or supply liquor only for consumption on the premises specified in the licence on a day or days specified in the licence 4) Trade fair: Authorises the licensee to sell. Full licence; Professional driver licence; Learner or provisional P-1 licence (red p-plate) If you get 4 or more demerit points, your licence will be suspended for three months. This means that you will not be able to drive for three months. If your licence is suspended, it is possible to appeal to the Local Court against that suspension. It is based on the driving simulations that lead to the 5 most common crash types for new unrestricted licence holders in NSW. The DQT is therefore a bit like an advanced version of the Driver Knowledge Test (DKT), you passed to get your learner licence, combined with the Hazard Perception Test (HPT) you passed to get your P2 licence.

I'm not sure if this is only NSW, but I failed the test the first time despite essentially knowing everything I had to. The bullshit was in the part 2 scenarios. I couldn't find much up-to-date information on the internet that was actually useful either so I thought I'd make some.

  1. There's a good chance you'll be tested on statistics. Young males are the root of all evil, 10km more is 30% more stopping distance, high alcohol hours are weeknights and weekends, fatigue hours are 4-8am and 12-2pm (think early morning and siesta), it takes 1.5 seconds to actually apply the brake in a situation, most crashes happen in 60km/h zones on sealed roads in fine weather, the largest cost of accidents is long-term care, travel 3 seconds behind a vehicle in fine conditions and more if adverse, check mirrors every 10 seconds, the largest in-vehicle cause of crashes is CD players and after that other passengers (the question I got actually didn't list CD players and expected to know other passengers was the 2nd largest), human factors alone is the largest cause of crashes and human combined factors make up 90% of crashes. If there's anything I've missed, hit up the handbook and note any statistics - they will not be in the section summaries most times. The rest of part 1 should be pretty straightforward if you know your signs, road rules and that a 10-seater van only needs a car license.

  2. Part 2 is the touch screen scenarios. I've seen a bit of misinformation about this, primarily YOU CAN BE TOO CAUTIOUS. I was lucky enough to get one clip of a truck right in front of me for a practice question so I got feedback on it, which was helpful...the second fucking time. But the lesson is, for that clip, slow down ONLY ONCE. It says the truck is one hazard and it wants one tap, no more.

As far as turning right, I can't confirm that if you never go you're not penalised, as I did not want to chance another $42 and did take a couple of safe gaps, but I got one of those as a practice question and it didn't rate a non-response as wrong, just 'could do better'. However there will be some clips where it is correct never to go - and this is more likely by far. They do lots of tricky shit to catch you out - ninja motorcycles, people running reds, it's the wild fucking west out there.

If it's overtaking cyclists just don't do it. I've seen like 5 different clips for this and not once have I overtaken.

teal deer, know your stats, don't overtake cyclists, scarcely turn right and do not press to often thinking it won't be penalised. This last one is a common misconception even among tips posts.
